There are many excellent books on the history of Manchester, but Old Manchester II - The Storytellers
is unique in that it gives you the STORY of Manchester as told through the eyes and memories of those who
lived it.
Published in 1995, the book tells the story beginning in the late 1780s, long before Manchester became a
separate Town in 1823. It's not a book filled with facts so much as a human-interest journey through the
Town's history.
There was no formal Index associated with this book, so we must make-do here. All of the stories are
identified, just as they are in the book, along with their Book page and their PDF page.
> The Book page is what you see at the top of each leaf.
> The PDF page reflects the way it's stored online. While blank pages may be ignored in the Book page
printing, they must be counted in the PDF format, to allow you to "jump" directly to a place where the story
you're interested in is located.
You can re-sort the table on a column-by-column basis by clicking the top row's headings.
Accompanying this web document are also 2 other files, one containing the names of each of the People in
the book and the pages where they're found, and the other containing the Places mentioned in the book and the
pages where they were found. These documents are provided for informational use; but for trying to find the
subjects contained in them, it would be vastly more convenient to simply to a Find of the term (click the "How
Find Text" icon on the Storytellers Home page where you came from to get to this page, to find out how
to do it on your browser).
It's hoped that this Tool, along with its companion "Keyword Search" tool, will enable you to locate
things in the Manchester Historical Society's website and in other locations as well. Remember, though, that
this is very much a work in progress.
