The Eldridge Homestead was situated just south of Maple on Main Street. The 9th District fire destroyed
the South Manchester Public Library. The books were rescued and were then housed in the Eldridge House, a three story
Victorian mansion. Plans were made to build a new library in Education Square, now part of the Bennet Middle School complex
but later abandoned because the location was too far removed from the center of population.
A bank currently occupies the land where the Eldridge Homestead once stood.
