M. T. Moriarty Dies Suddenly

MANCHESTER (Special)

Maurice T. Moriarty, 59, of 119 Brent Rd., vice president of Moriarty Bros. Inc, died suddenly Friday [June 23, 1967] at Hammonassett State Park in Madison after suffering a heart attack.

Born in Manchester, he had been a lifelong resident of the town and was affiliated with the audomobile dealers' association, and the fuel oil distributors.

He leaves his wife, Mrs. Katheryn D. Moriarty; a daughter, Mrs. Eldon Marks, Newton Mass.; a stepdaughter, Mrs. David Mazzadora, East Hartford; a stepson, Gerald Snyder, Binghamton, N.Y.; two brothers, Matthew M. Moriarty, with whom he was associated in the automobile business, and James F. Moriarty, Manchester, and three grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are in the charge of the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 W. Center St., and are incomplete.

MANCHESTER

Matthew M. Moriarty Sr., founder and chairman of the board of Moriarty Bros. car dealership in Manchester and a Papal Knight of St. Gregory the Great, died Sunday at Manchester Memorial Hospital. He was 82.

He was born in Manchester and became one of its most prominent citizens. He established his auto dealership in 1933 and subsequently served on many local civic and charitable organizations.

Moriarty received one of the highest honors of the Roman Catholic Church in 1963 when he was awarded the title of "Knight of St. Gregory the Great, civil class." The appointment was made by the Pope after a recommendation from the Hartford archdiocese. The honor is given to lay Catholics for their service to the church.

Moriarty was co-founder, past chairman and a member of the Advisory Council of Manchester Community College. He was also a trustee of the Manchester Chamber of Commerce.

Moriarty was past president of the Connecticut Automotive Trades Association, the Lincoln-Mercury Dealers Council of New England and the Connecticut Automotive Trades Association.
